Trip Information
Spring (March - May)
Fishing the central/ western basin of Lake Erie typically from Lorain to Port Clinton out of Ranger 622 FS Pro.
Walleyes congregate in the western basin of Lake Erie to spawn before starting their annual migration
east to the central and eastern basins of Lake Erie. This high concentration of walleyes in the western
basin during this time provides outstanding fishing for both numbers of fish and also typically produces
the heaviest fish of the year. Trophy fish in the 10-14lb range are possible during this time, by trolling
crankbaits and planar boards, with the peak time for trophy fish is from ice out until mid-April. Starting
in early April the smaller male walleyes concentrate on shallow reefs and shorelines providing fantastic
jig fishing opportunities. Peak jig fishing usually occurs the last 3 weeks of April.
